Baghaei denies receiving an official invitation to the Mecca Pact

Iran has not received official offers from the states of the Mecca Pact (Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan) to join it.

This was stated at a press conference by the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Baghaei.

"We have not received official offers from the countries participating in the Mecca Pact," he said.

Earlier, the head of the news agency of Iran's Majlis (parliament), Mehdi Rahimi, said that Tehran had received an invitation to join the Mecca Pact and that the issue was under consideration.

The agreement in Mecca was signed on August 7 by Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, President of Turkey Tayyip Erdogan, and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif. It stipulates that an attack on one of the countries will be regarded as aggression against all members of the coalition.
