Ukraine expects Magyar to return frozen Oschadbank funds
Ukraine wants the leader of the Tisa party, Peter Magyar, who won the parliamentary elections in Hungary, to return the funds of Oschadbank that were blocked under Viktor Orban.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as quoted by RBC-Ukraine.
"They took our money. We will talk to Magyar now. I think they should return it. Orban simply stole this money," Zelenskyy said.
On March 5, seven Ukrainians were detained in Hungary on suspicion of money laundering. In their vehicle, authorities found $40 million, €35 million, and nine kilograms of gold. Representatives of the Ukrainian Oschadbank explained that the detained individuals were working as cash couriers and were transporting currency and precious metals under an agreement with the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank. On March 10, the Hungarian parliament passed a bill to freeze the funds confiscated from the Ukrainian Oschadbank.
