Canada and France may join British ban on trade with Israeli settlements

Canada and France intend to join the United Kingdom and ban imports of products from Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

The decision is being considered against the backdrop of Israel's plans to build about 1,200 new homes in the West Bank.

In Israel, the initiative has already been criticized. President Isaac Herzog called the restrictions a serious miscalculation, while Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar warned of the possibility of retaliatory measures on Israel's part.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for the closure of the British consulate in Jerusalem.
