UK to exempt Shah Deniz from new sanctions against Iran

The United Kingdom intends to exempt projects related to Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz gas field from new sanctions restrictions against Iran.

This was stated by UK Deputy Foreign Minister Stephen Doughty.

"General licenses will be issued allowing the continued operation of the Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan, which provides critically important energy supplies to our European partners. This decision is a continuation of our long-standing policy and is consistent with the approaches of the European Union and the United States, which also provide for similar exemptions for activities related to the Shah Deniz field," Doughty said.

Overall, according to him, the United Kingdom is tightening sanctions against Iran.
