Trump will ask Xi Jinping to open China to American companies

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he intends to ask Chinese leader Xi Jinping during their talks to increase the openness of the Chinese market to companies from the United States.

He called false a report by the CNBC television channel that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was invited at the last minute to join the presidential delegation during the visit to China. "It is a great honor that Jensen, Elon [Musk], Tim [Cook of] Apple, [BlackRock head] Larry Fink, [Blackstone head] Stephen Schwarzman, Kelly Ortberg (Boeing), Brian Sikes (Cargill), Jane Fraser (Citi), Larry Culp (GE Aerospace), David Solomon (Goldman Sachs), Sanjay Mehrotra (Micron), Cristiano Amon (Qualcomm) and many others are traveling to the great country of China, where I will ask Chairman Xi, a leader with outstanding merits, to 'open' China so that these brilliant people can work their miracles and help raise the People's Republic to an even higher level," he wrote on Truth Social.

"Moreover, I promise that when we meet [with the Chinese leader], which will happen in just a few hours, I will put forward this request first. I have never seen or heard of any idea that would be more beneficial for our incredible countries," the U.S. president added.

The head of the U.S. administration will make a state visit to China from May 13 to 15. The leaders of the two countries are expected to discuss issues of trade, energy, strategic stability, the U.S. and Israel war against Iran, and Taiwan. Trump's previous trip to Beijing took place during his first presidential term in 2017. The last meeting between the heads of state was held in October 2025 in Busan (Republic of Korea), where they attended the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
