Araghchi states Iran's legitimate right to self-defense
Iran has the right to take self-defense actions after U.S. encroachments on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic.
This was stated by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during telephone conversations with his Turkish and Saudi counterparts Hakan Fidan and Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
According to a message published in the Telegram channel of the press service of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, in the conversations Araghchi "condemned the military aggression undertaken by the U.S. [against Iran], and violations [by the American side] of the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic," emphasizing that Tehran has an "inalienable right to legitimate self-defense."
Earlier, the U.S. Central Command reported strikes on Iranian territories after an American Apache helicopter was shot down over the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) attacked U.S. bases in the Middle East region.
