The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled Consul General in Batumi Adnan Altay Altınörs after photos of the diplomat in a casino spread on social media.

The circulated images sparked widespread public resonance and discussion in diplomatic circles. Following this, the ministry decided to return Altınörs to the central apparatus of the ministry in Ankara. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs had not provided official comments regarding the circumstances of the photos' appearance or the results of any possible internal review at the time of publication.

Banu Terzioğlu, previously serving as an advisor at the Turkish Embassy in Tbilisi, has been appointed as the new Consul General of Turkey in Batumi. Terzioğlu has worked in the Turkish Foreign Ministry system since 2005 and possesses significant diplomatic experience. Over the years, she has worked in departments responsible for protocol, relations with South Asia, and cooperation with the European Union, and also served as an advisor to the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs. From 2019 to 2025, Terzioğlu headed the Turkish Consulate General in Karlsruhe, Germany, after which she was appointed advisor to the Turkish Embassy in Tbilisi. The new consul general has already assumed her duties.
