Ministry of justice of Armenia: text of new constitution not ready for publication

The text of the new constitution of Armenia is not ready for publication, as the Ministry of Justice is awaiting opinions and comments from colleagues.

This was stated by the Minister of Justice of Armenia Srbuhi Galyan, reports Sputnik Armenia.

"Yesterday (at the meeting of the board of the Civil Contract party - ed. note) they discussed the issue related to the publication of the text of the new constitution, and I believe that in the near future after summarization - I say so because we are waiting for the opinions of certain colleagues of ours, and we will need a week or two to collect these opinions - there will be one or two more discussions, and then we will understand whether we are ready or not <...>. Regarding the reasons why it was not published earlier: I have said many times before that the text is not ready, and a number of our colleagues did not have time to submit their comments," she said.

The minister noted that the issue of publication should be decided collectively, not individually, and when the appropriate decision is made, then the text will be made public.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan set a political goal to adopt a new constitution that will be "organically linked to the citizens of Armenia."

On March 12, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated that the new constitution of Armenia should not contain references to the Declaration of Independence due to conflicting logic.
