State Duma tightens requirements for migrants to work in Russia
The State Duma has tightened requirements for migrants who want to work in Russia.
This is reported by RIA Novosti.
Deputies adopted a law that obliges labor migrants to independently provide for themselves and family members who are their dependents at a level not below the subsistence minimum in the region. The changes were made to the law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation."
Authorized agencies will monitor migrants' income. Tax authorities will automatically send information about the earnings of arrivals to the Interior Ministry, and the latter will be required to submit to the Interior Ministry an income certificate for the reporting period, a copy of the tax declaration, or documents confirming payment of personal income tax.
If a migrant fails to comply with the requirements of the law, their patent or work permit will not be extended, and they along with their minor children will be required to leave Russia within 15 days. Children of labor migrants will be allowed to stay in Russia only during the validity period of their parents' work permit. After reaching the age of majority, they will have to either obtain their own patent or leave the country within 30 days.
At the end of June, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law increasing state fees for migrants. Fees for foreigners increased in several areas at once. The fee for obtaining a Russian passport will rise from 4,200 rubles to 50,000, for issuing a temporary residence permit — from 1,920 to 15,000 rubles, and for obtaining a residence permit — from 6,000 to 30,000 rubles.
