Renowned Azerbaijani artist Elchin Jabarov has passed away
Last Saturday, after a long illness, in the 59th year of his life, one of Azerbaijan's well-known artists, a lecturer at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, Elchin Agarza oglu Jabarov, passed away.
Elchin Jabarov was an artist of multifaceted talent. His creative path encompassed painting, graphic art, book illustration, ceramics, and decorative sculpture. For many years he contributed not only to the development of the country's fine arts, but also to the education of a new generation of artists.
Elchin Jabarov was born in 1967 in Baku. His interest in art appeared as early as his childhood years. In 1980, works by the sixth-grader Elchin Jabarov, executed in watercolor and gouache based on the works of Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, Walter Scott, and other European writers, were presented at the All-Union children's drawing competition in Yerevan and took one of the leading places.
After graduating from the eight-year school No. 176, he continued his education at an art-oriented technical school in the settlement of Bakikhanov. Already during this period the future artist took part in decorating the interiors of the educational institution, creating wall paintings and posters.
In 1991–1997, Elchin Jabarov studied at the ceramics faculty of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. Since the 1990s he was a regular participant in the traditional republican autumn exhibitions. Viewers and specialists highly appreciated his works executed in oil in various genres, as well as his works of small decorative sculpture.
A special place in the artist's work was occupied by book graphics. Since the late 1990s he worked actively in this field, creating illustrations for the works of Azerbaijani and foreign authors.
One of Elchin Jabarov's significant achievements was his work on the edition of "Gabusnameh," the illustrated version of which took first place in 2006 at a competition of books of the CIS countries in Moscow. A year later, at the international book fair in Moscow, his illustrations for the books of the Azerbaijani writer Kamal Abdulla "A Diary Without Dates," Tamara Kryukova's "Kostya and Nika," and Georgy Mishev's "An Orphan with Living Parents" received high praise.
The artist also worked on the design of the works of the outstanding Azerbaijani writer and literary scholar Mir Jalal Pashayev. His illustrations for the novels "The Manifesto of a Young Man," "The Resurrected Man," "Where Does Our Path Lead?" and other works were distinguished by a deep understanding of the historical era, the atmosphere, and the inner world of the characters.
The album "Old Baku" deserves special attention, having become one of Elchin Jabarov's most well-known works in the field of graphic art. In his works, Icherisheher and the old quarters of the capital appear not merely as architectural monuments, but as a living space preserving the memory of generations. The artist managed to combine precision of observation, love for his native city, and artistic imagination, creating his own recognizable view of ancient Baku.
As art critics noted, Elchin Jabarov was distinguished by an individual creative manner, by the ability to create complete, harmonious compositions, each of which was perceived as an independent work of art.
In parallel with his creative activity, Elchin Jabarov was engaged in teaching, passing on his experience and knowledge to the younger generation as a lecturer at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts.
The passing of Elchin Jabarov is a heavy loss for Azerbaijani art. His works, illustrations, and graphic pieces will remain part of the country's cultural heritage, and the memory of him will remain in the hearts of colleagues, students, and all those who cherished his art.
