Iran considers developing foreign trade via the "Caspian Express"

Amid the difficult situation with the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian authorities are considering developing freight transportation through the north of the country and the Caspian Sea, the Fars news agency reports.

According to the outlet, one of the options could be the so-called "Caspian Express" — a route through Iran's northern ports to Russia and further into the Eurasian transportation network. The Caspian is being considered as a possible route for importing goods and raw materials from Russia and Kazakhstan and exporting Iranian agricultural, industrial, and construction products.

As a reminder, the United States continues its naval blockade of Iran, and the military regularly redirects vessels linked to Iran near the Strait of Hormuz.
