Engine fragment shatters Ryanair plane window: passenger nearly sucked out
A technical malfunction aboard a Ryanair passenger plane flying from Greece to Germany caused panic during the flight.
As Bizim.Media reports, in a Boeing 737-800 plane flying the route Thessaloniki — Memmingen, at an altitude of about 20 thousand feet, a loud explosion sound was heard.
According to preliminary information, a detached engine part struck one of the passenger cabin windows and damaged it. As a result, a strong air flow partially pulled out a 61-year-old Serbian citizen sitting by the window.
The fastened seat belt prevented his complete falling out of the plane. The passenger's wife and other people sitting nearby tried to pull him back into the cabin, holding him by the legs. The tense situation lasted several minutes, during which oxygen masks automatically activated in the plane. Immediately after the incident, the pilot changed course, urgently returned to Thessaloniki airport and safely landed the plane.
In a statement Ryanair notes that later the passengers were sent to their destination on an alternative flight. The 61-year-old passenger, who suffered a neck injury and abrasions on his body as a result of the incident, was hospitalized. A pregnant woman who was on the plane also underwent a medical examination as a precaution. It is reported that the condition of both is stable.
