Hungary deems Russia a "threat"

Hungary classifies Russia as a "threat," Der Spiegel reports, citing Hungarian government documents.

The new course is reflected in the directives for the Hungarian delegation at the session of the UN General Assembly in September, signed by Prime Minister Peter Magyar, Magyar Nemzet reports.

A few months after the change of the Hungarian government in April of this year, when Magyar replaced Viktor Orban, who had spoken out in support of Russia, as prime minister, Budapest officially enshrined a new foreign policy course, designating Moscow as a "threat."

"Russia's actions constitute a threat to Hungary, Europe, and the world order," the documents state. It follows from them that Budapest also supports efforts that could lead to negotiations on a "lasting peace and long-term security guarantees" for Kyiv.
