Two EU diplomats declared personae non gratae in Burkina Faso
Authorities in Burkina Faso have declared two European Union diplomats personae non gratae and given them three days to leave the country.
This was reported by the Burkinabe Press Agency (AIB).
According to the agency, the strict measures were taken against the deputy head of the EU diplomatic mission, the head of the department for politics, press, and information, as well as the head of the mission's program. Their names and the reason for the decision are not specified.
On June 22, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso summoned the EU ambassador. The diplomat was expressed outrage in connection with the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on the situation with freedom of expression and the fight against terrorism in the country.
On June 26, Burkina Faso severed diplomatic relations with France, noting that Paris's actions indicate active support for subversive and terrorist networks and biased coverage of events in the country. The newspaper Le Monde, citing its sources, reported that the severance of relations was due to the European Parliament resolution.
