Nvidia strikes $6 billion deal with startup Poolside to create a new AI model
Technology giant Nvidia has struck a $6 billion deal with AI startup Poolside to create a powerful artificial intelligence model capable of competing with the Chinese developments DeepSeek and Kimi K3.
According to media reports, under the agreement Nvidia will receive the right to use Poolside's technologies and will bring on most of the startup's engineers. Poolside's founders have already notified shareholders of a large-scale reorganization of the company, emphasizing that the alliance with Nvidia is intended to prevent artificial intelligence from becoming a closed technology under the control of a narrow group of players.
The investment is driven by the rapid narrowing of China's technological gap with the United States in the field of AI. Despite American restrictions on the supply of advanced chips, Chinese models are demonstrating efficiency comparable to Western counterparts at significantly lower costs. Cited as an example is the Kimi K3 model from the company Moonshot, which has come very close in performance to Anthropic's flagship development.
