Russian detained in Armenia in cybercrime case
Russian Alexander Ermakov from Omsk has been detained in Armenia at the request of foreign competent authorities in a case involving computer fraud.
This is reported by TASS sources familiar with the situation.
"Citizen Ermakov was detained at Yerevan's Zvartnots airport in June of this year in a case of computer fraud," the source said, without specifying from which country the request to detain Ermakov came.
Earlier, Russian Telegram channels reported that the Russian from Omsk had already been in an Armenian pretrial detention center for two weeks after being detained at Yerevan airport. Citing the Russian's relatives, it was noted that Ermakov was mistaken for a hacker wanted by Interpol at the request of the U.S. who shares his name. It is claimed that the detained Ermakov has no connection to the field of information technology. It is also noted that the patronymic of the man from Omsk differs from the patronymic of the man wanted by Interpol. No information could be obtained from Armenian law enforcement agencies at the time of publication.
