Voting in the parliamentary elections has ended in Kazakhstan
Voting in the first elections of deputies to Kazakhstan's new unicameral parliament (the Kurultai) has ended across the republic, more than 10,000 polling stations have closed, and the vote count has begun.
According to Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission, by 6:00 p.m. Astana time, 72.15% of voters had taken part in the elections, which is higher than the result of the 2023 parliamentary elections — at that time, 54.21% of voters came to vote.
New turnout figures have not yet been announced.
The elections to the Kurultai are being held in accordance with the country's new constitution, which was adopted on March 15, 2026, in a referendum. The new constitution provides for a transition to a unicameral Kurultai; previously, the country had a bicameral parliament.
The Kurultai will have 145 deputies, and seven parties, which have nominated 545 candidates, are competing for seats in parliament. The elections are being held solely on the basis of party lists. Voters also have the option of voting against all parties. There is no turnout threshold in the parliamentary elections.
