Hikmet Hajiyev: Relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have the character of a strategic alliance
Relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan already have the character of a strategic alliance.
This was stated by the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev, commenting in Uzbekistan on the Treaty on Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to him, following the contacts between the heads of the two states in 2020, relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan entered a new stage.
"Since that period, relations between the two states have moved from strategic partnership to the level of alliance. Now they will have the character of eternal friendship. This is the first such case in Azerbaijan's diplomatic practice, and it is the second time we are taking such a step precisely with Uzbekistan. Our peoples have always been friends anyway. If we turn to the history of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, there are so many ties between us. This can be seen even in the works of Alisher Navoi and other Uzbek writers," H. Hajiyev said.
He noted that the Azerbaijani-Uzbek literary friendship that has existed throughout history has today acquired the character of eternal friendship in the political sphere as well.
"This visit is of very great importance for Azerbaijan, since Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are above all fraternal peoples. Thanks to the efforts of the heads of our states, relations between our fraternal peoples today have an allied character, and Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations, as I have already explained to our colleagues, are reaching a new level — from alliance to eternal friendship. From today, these relations will also have the character of eternal friendship in the political sphere. Therefore, we believe that this visit will become a new stage in the relations of brotherhood, alliance and eternal friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. We separately thank fraternal Uzbekistan for its hospitality and congratulate it. A lengthy interview with the head of state devoted to Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations was published in the Uzbek media. In it, the President noted that we are delighted every time we come to Uzbekistan," H. Hajiyev added.
