Vance: U.S. agreed to truce after Iran consented to open Strait of Hormuz
The United States agreed to a truce in the conflict with Iran after Tehran expressed readiness to open the Strait of Hormuz for navigation.
This was stated by U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
"President [U.S. Donald Trump] effectively issued an ultimatum to the Iranians. He said, 'Open the strait. Stop holding the global economy hostage, and we will agree to a truce.' And that is the agreement we reached overnight. The Iranians agreed to open the strait," Vance said.
He described the current truce between the U.S. and Iran as still fragile.
"Some people reacted [to the news of the ceasefire] positively and said the right things, while others, using social media, are essentially lying about our military achievements. They lie about the nature of the agreement. They lie about the nature of the truce. And that is why I say this is a fragile truce: there are people who clearly want to sit at the negotiating table and work with us to find a beneficial agreement. And there are those who lie even about the fragile truce we have already concluded," he said.
