Turkey denies involvement of ISIS in Istanbul attack
The armed attack on the Israeli consulate in Istanbul was not orchestrated by the Islamic State (ISIS), reports the newspaper Hürriyet.
It has been established that the attackers had no direct ties to ISIS, and the attack was not organized by this structure, the publication states.
According to the newspaper, the attackers were unemployed and had recently been in contact with radical Salafist groups. However, the decision to carry out the attack was made independently by the group, outraged by Israel's actions, as noted.
It is pointed out that the phrasing 'an organization exploiting religion' was deliberately chosen to avoid premature conclusions about the involvement of specific terrorist structures.
The publication indicates that, against the backdrop of the conflict involving Iran, attempts were made on social media to portray the incident as an ISIS attack to create an impression of instability and amplify a campaign about an alleged terrorist threat in Turkey.
On Tuesday, an armed attack was carried out on the Israeli consulate in Istanbul. One of the attackers was neutralized, two were injured, and two police officers were also harmed. The Turkish President's administration stated that the fight against terrorist threats would continue.
