Hezbollah threatens civil war to Lebanese authorities
The Lebanese Shia organization Hezbollah is currently showing patience toward the Lebanese government, but given the political situation, "all options are possible," including civil war.
This was stated to Vesti by Mahmoud Qummati, the deputy head of the organization's political council.
"To be honest, all options are possible," he said, responding to a question about the likelihood of civil war. "Today, we have said that we are in a phase of patience toward the government, its decisions, and its policy of following the US and foreign countries. We are patient and continue to be patient, but ultimately, all options are possible."
On March 2, the Lebanese government imposed a ban on Hezbollah's armed activities across the entire country. The republic's Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, demanded that the Shia organization surrender its weapons to the Lebanese army and limit its activities to the political sphere within constitutional norms. The authorities took this step after Hezbollah units shelled northern areas of Israel, which became the cause of a new military escalation.
