Egyptian court sentences former TV host Sarah Khalifa to death
An Egyptian court has sentenced former television host Sarah Khalifa and 11 other people to death in a case involving the illegal production and possession of narcotics.
Nine other defendants received life sentences, and seven were acquitted. The verdict is not final and is subject to appeal in the appellate and cassation courts.
The scandal surrounding the criminal group in whose activities Khalifa was accused of taking part erupted in April 2025. Law enforcement agencies discovered an underground workshop producing synthetic drugs in a private apartment in eastern Cairo, seizing at least 750 kg of banned substances.
Sarah Khalifa began her television career in Saudi Arabia and Iraq, after which she hosted her own program in Cairo and owned a beauty studio. At least 3 million people are subscribed to her social media pages.
