The European Union will have a new mission in Armenia
Ambassadors of EU countries today in Brussels made a decision to send a new civilian mission to Armenia, paving the way for final approval, which is expected to take place at the meeting of EU foreign ministers next week.
The Armenian service of Radio Liberty reports this.
Radio Liberty has access to a proposal from the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy regarding the mandate, structure, and timeline of the mission. According to this document, the mission should strengthen Armenia's resilience against hybrid threats by providing strategic and practical advice and support to ministries and agencies in the security sector. Within the framework of these consultations, primary attention will be given to policy development, identification, and response to external information manipulation, cyberattacks, as well as illicit financial flows. The mission should also assess the following: what is needed to develop security capacity in Armenia so that the country can more effectively identify and respond to hybrid threats in line with EU methodologies and standards?
It is expected that the new EU group will operate in Armenia for two years and consist of 20-30 international staff members. It will operate under the name 'EU Partnership Mission.' It is noted that this opportunity will also be open to third countries if and when Brussels reaches agreements with them in this direction,' the radio station reports.
