Yerevan does not return: Pashinyan solidifies freeze in CSTO
Armenia will not take steps to resume active participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
According to Armenpress, this was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan while presenting provisions on cooperation in multilateral formats, which were included in the election program of the ruling Civil Contract party.
“As you know, the Republic of Armenia’s membership in the CSTO is frozen, and no steps will be taken to resume activities. This is enshrined in our election program,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
Speaking about Armenia’s participation in other multilateral formats, Pashinyan noted that the country’s involvement in such formats is important for enhancing the effectiveness of a balanced and counterbalancing foreign policy.
“The Republic of Armenia will continue to remain an active member of the UN and its specialized bodies, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, the CIS, the International Organization of La Francophonie, and the European Political Community.
Armenia has also become a member of the Peace Council, established at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump, and will continue its work in this format,” the Prime Minister stated.
Armenia froze its participation in the CSTO’s activities in February 2024. Pashinyan emphasized that the CSTO had failed to fulfill its security obligations toward Armenia.
