Iran announces complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz has been completely closed to shipping.

This was reported by the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic, Mohsen Rezaei, Press TV reports.

According to him, the Iranian military is firing on American vessels that attempt to pass through the strait, but is not sinking them in order not to harm the environment.

“Iran has decided not to sink American vessels engaged in smuggling, since they carry oil, and this would cause damage to the region's environment,” Rezaei stated.
