Iran receives revenue from Hormuz Strait transit fees for the first time
Iranian authorities have received revenue from fees for ships crossing the Hormuz Strait for the first time.
This was announced by the Deputy Speaker of the Majlis (parliament), Haji Babai.
"The first revenue obtained from fees in the Hormuz Strait has been transferred to the central bank's account," the Fars news agency quoted him as saying.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced the opening of the Hormuz Strait for commercial vessels.
Washington warned that it would continue the naval blockade of the Islamic Republic until a final agreement is reached between the parties. Following this, the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the armed forces) reported that Iran had closed the strait until the U.S. naval blockade is fully lifted. The IRGC urged shipowners to strictly follow the recommendations of the Iranian side and described statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the situation in the Hormuz Strait as "not credible."
