Axios: Iran submits new proposal to the US involving the opening of the Strait of Hormuz
Tehran has submitted a new proposal to Washington for conflict resolution, which includes lifting the American blockade, opening the Strait of Hormuz, and subsequently moving to discussions on Iran's nuclear program.
This was reported by the Axios portal on April 26, citing sources.
According to their information, representatives of the Islamic Republic conveyed the new proposal to the American side through intermediaries in Pakistan. "The new proposal aims to overcome the current deadlock in negotiations and disagreements over the extent of nuclear concessions that the Iranian leadership is willing to make to reach a deal with the [US President Donald] Trump administration," the portal writes.
As the portal informs, Iran's proposal "focuses primarily on resolving the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the American blockade." It is assumed that the parties should extend the ceasefire regime "for a prolonged period or agree to a permanent cessation of hostilities."
"According to the proposal, negotiations on the nuclear [program] will only begin at a later stage, after the Strait of Hormuz is opened and the blockade is lifted," Axios notes. According to its data, the American leader plans to hold a cabinet meeting on April 27 to "discuss the deadlock in negotiations with Iran and possible options for the next steps in the war."
US President on April 25 stated that after canceling a visit by his negotiators to Pakistan for a meeting with the Iranian side, Washington received a new proposal from Tehran. Earlier, he announced the cancellation of the trip of his special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan, stating that his country is ready to negotiate with Iran over the phone.
