Government of Armenia ratifies charter of Gaza Peace Council
The government of Armenia has ratified the charter of the Gaza Peace Council, after which the law must be sent to parliament for ratification.
"The Ministry of Justice of Armenia reported that the charter of the Peace Council does not contain provisions contradicting the republic's laws, requiring amendments to the law, or the adoption of a new law [...]. Considering the above, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deems it appropriate for the National Assembly (parliament) of Armenia to ratify the charter of the Peace Council," the adopted decision states.
On January 22, representatives of 19 countries signed the charter of the Peace Council, established as part of peace efforts in the Gaza Strip, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that other states have also joined the organization. The Peace Council was created under an agreement between Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas to govern the Gaza Strip, but it is expected to also address conflict prevention and resolution in other regions.
Armenia signed the charter of the Gaza Peace Council on the basis of participation without membership fees amounting to $1 billion.
