Reuters: Saudi Arabia secretly struck Iran
Saudi Arabia secretly carried out numerous strikes on Iran, Reuters reports, citing Western officials and Iranian sources.
According to the agency, the previously unknown strikes were carried out at the end of March in response to Iranian attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia. Reuters was unable to determine exactly which targets Saudi Arabia attacked.
A senior Saudi Foreign Ministry official did not directly answer the agency's questions. Iranian authorities declined to comment.
The day before, WSJ reported that the UAE Air Force struck Iran.
Information about the direct involvement of the UAE and Saudi Arabia in hostilities, Reuters notes, changes the perception of the degree of involvement of the Persian Gulf countries in the conflict.
At the same time, the agency writes, if the UAE from the beginning of the US and Israel war with Iran advocated more for the use of force, then Saudi Arabia tried to achieve an end to the conflict through diplomatic means.
The agency also notes that in early April, the number of Iranian missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia decreased significantly compared to March.
The US and Israel began striking Iran on February 28. Iran, in turn, attacked US allies in the Persian Gulf with drones and missiles, and also blocked the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, which became one of the main reasons for the sharp rise in world energy prices. Since the beginning of April, an agreement on a temporary ceasefire has been in effect between Iran and the US, but traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has not yet resumed in the usual mode.
