Shalva Papuashvili called the peace process between Baku and Yerevan encouraging
The peace process between Baku and Yerevan, as well as the efforts of Turkey and Armenia to normalize relations, are promising, which creates prospects for greater stability in the region.
Shalva Papuashvili, the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, stated this while speaking at the 67th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC).
"Today our region has enormous potential to strengthen its role as a hub of trade, transport, energy and digital connectivity. The current period should be viewed not only through the prism of challenges, but also as a time of new opportunities to further strengthen our cooperation," Papuashvili said.
As the Speaker of Parliament noted, the development of the "Middle Corridor" has acquired particular importance. According to him, by improving transport infrastructure, developing logistics networks, promoting trade and strengthening multimodal connectivity, the region can become an attractive and reliable link between regions and continents.
"A more stable neighborhood is in the interests of every country represented in this assembly. The ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as efforts aimed at normalizing relations between Turkey and Armenia, are encouraging, which creates prospects for strengthening stability and expanding cooperation in our wider region.
At the beginning of this month, the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line was put into operation - a joint strategic project of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey. This is a clear example of how practical cooperation can bring mutual benefit and contribute to the realization of our common vision - the creation of a more interconnected and prosperous region," the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia noted.
