Fire breaks out on Brooklyn Bridge during Independence Day celebration - video
A fire broke out on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York during a fireworks display.
The New York Times reported this.
The fire was reported around 9:32 p.m. local time on the Manhattan side of the bridge. It turned out that the cause of the fire was a fireworks display in honor of the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence Day. Two fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the fire. No one was injured.
The bridge had already been closed to vehicular traffic for the holiday, but all lanes remained blocked to cars and pedestrians until late at night while emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the incident.
Eyewitnesses told the NYT that in the large crowd on Old Fulton Street, no one panicked and many of those who were filming the fireworks continued to film as smoke rose over the bridge.
City authorities later stated that the fire was minor, and the 143-year-old historic bridge remained completely safe and retained its integrity.
