U.S. strike disrupts direct rail service to Mashhad on the eve of Khamenei's funeral
Passenger train service between Tehran and Mashhad, where the funeral ceremony for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is scheduled to take place on July 9, has been suspended due to the nighttime U.S. strike.
This was reported by the Tasnim agency.
According to its data, repair crews have been sent to the scene and have begun restoring the railway track. It is noted that the authorities have developed an alternative route for passenger movement, which involves bypassing the damaged section using road transport.
The United States and Israel began a war with Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. On July 8, American leader Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire regime with Iran was no longer in effect, accusing Tehran of violating bilateral agreements. Majlis (parliament) Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, after new strikes by U.S. forces on the Islamic Republic, stated that the Strait of Hormuz would be open only after Tehran’s conditions are met, and not under threats from Washington. He emphasized that intimidation and broken promises from the U.S. no longer go without consequences.
The burial of Ali Khamenei will take place on July 9 in Iran in his hometown of Mashhad.
