Pashinyan demands over $16 thousand from ex-deputy for slander and insults against him
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has filed a lawsuit against ex-deputy from his party ("Civil Contract") Sofia Ovsepyan and former colleague from the parliamentary faction "Yelk," head of the "Enlightened Armenia" party Edmon Marukyan.
Data on this is presented on the Datalex judicial information portal.
Pashinyan is demanding an apology from Ovsepyan for statements made in an interview with the publication "Graparak," published shortly after the elections. In the interview, Ovsepyan in particular stated: "I have long known this scoundrel and knew how he would draw the election results." Ovsepyan also stated: "Pashinyan hastened to declare himself the winner; he knew very well how he would draw all this."
Pashinyan's lawsuit contains a demand for an apology for the offensive statements and for refuting the specified accusations (of election fraud - ed.) on the online resources of the publication "Graparak" or in any newspaper with a circulation of at least 5 thousand copies distributed throughout the territory of Armenia.
As compensation for the insults, Pashinyan demands 2 million drams ($5.4 thousand), and for slander - 4 million ($10.8 thousand).
The lawsuit against Marukyan is published in incomplete form; the demands on it are not specified. Only the basis for the lawsuit is indicated - this is a video in Marukyan's Telegram channel, also published shortly after the elections. In this video, Marukyan accuses the authorities in the person of Pashinyan that at a number of polling stations, the votes of "Enlightened Armenia" were not counted. According to Marukyan, although his party did not enter parliament, it could have overcome the barrier allowing it to receive state funding, which Pashinyan did not want, wishing to distribute these funds among his proxy parties. Marukyan called the prime minister and the head of the CEC "petty falsifiers."
Recall that on June 7, parliamentary elections were held in Armenia, in which the party "Civil Contract" won, the leader of which, Nikol Pashinyan, received the right to take the post of prime minister.
