Former Estonian Prime Minister Siim Kallas has died

In Estonia, former Prime Minister and ex-Foreign Minister Siim Kallas has died at the age of 77.

Kallas played a key role in the restoration of Estonia's independence and the establishment of modern statehood. During his years of public service, he had a decisive influence on the country's integration into European structures.

It was during his leadership of the government that Estonia completed negotiations on joining the European Union and NATO.
