Yemen will no longer allow Iranian planes into the country
Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi stated that the republic's authorities will no longer allow Iranian planes to cross the Yemeni border.
This was reported by the Al Arabiya television channel.
"We are telling the Yemeni people that, starting today, no Iranian plane will ever return to our land again," al-Alimi stressed during a meeting of the National Defense Council.
As the channel notes, following the meeting the council approved a package of military, political, and diplomatic measures to protect sovereignty, placing responsibility for the escalation on the rebel Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) and Tehran. Meeting participants emphasized that accepting flights at Sanaa airport in violation of established legal procedures constitutes a breach of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation and UN Security Council resolutions.
On July 13, the Yemeni Defense Ministry reported striking the Sanaa airport runway to prevent an Iranian plane from landing. In response, the Houthis declared the end of the de-escalation phase and launched ballistic missiles and drones at Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia. The Riyadh-led Arab coalition reported intercepting the missiles over the kingdom's southern regions.
