Tyrannosaurus skeleton sold at US auction for record $50 million
A 11.5-meter-long Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton went under the hammer in the United States for a record 50 million dollars.
This is according to data from the Sotheby's auction in New York.
According to the auction house, the ancient predator was nicknamed Gus. It is one of the largest Tyrannosaurus skeletons ever found. At the same time, the lizard's skull is exceptionally well preserved, with about 82 percent of the bones represented.
Judging by the overall size and degree of bone development, it can be determined that Gus's skeleton belonged to a very large, robust adult specimen. The specimen was carefully prepared in accordance with the highest standards, showcasing the natural beauty of the fossils, the message says.
The predator is believed to have lived about 67 million years ago.
