Court blocks Trump administration's decision to relocate FBI headquarters

A federal judge in the state of Maryland has blocked the decision by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to relocate the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington.

This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing a court document.

The court also imposed a ban on the decision to redirect FBI funds allocated for the construction of a new building for the FBI in Maryland. The judge found that the authorities and residents of the state would face economic losses if the decision to build the new headquarters were canceled, including the loss of future benefits.

The FBI headquarters has been located in the Edgar Hoover Building in downtown Washington since 1975. However, it has become outdated, and for this reason discussions about moving the bureau to another location have been going on for the past 15 years. In 2023, the administration of then-U.S. President Joe Biden approved a plan to construct a new building for the FBI in Maryland, for which Congress allocated $323 million.

In early July, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), whose tasks include managing and supporting the core functions of the federal government, announced that the FBI headquarters would be located in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington.
