Trump announces end to insurance coverage of gender reassignment surgeries for children

The government Medicaid program will no longer cover gender reassignment surgeries and hormone drugs for minors.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced this on Truth Social.

"Today, at my direction, Dr. Mehmet Oz announced that Medicaid will no longer fund gender reassignment surgeries and hormone drugs for minors. We are not going to pay for our innocent children to be subjected to these barbaric surgeries and procedures, which cause unthinkable and irreversible harm to their young bodies," Trump wrote.

According to CNBC, under the new rules, Medicaid and the government Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) funds may not be used to cover gender-affirming care and transgender transitions (the "international LGBT movement" has been declared extremist and is banned in Russia).

The ban applies to puberty-blocking drugs, hormone drugs, and surgical operations. The changes will take effect on October 13.

The government Medicaid program provides health insurance to low-income people, people with disabilities, children from poor families, and other socially vulnerable individuals. The program is funded from federal and state funds.

The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides insurance to children from families with modest incomes who do not meet Medicaid's criteria.
