Iran announces shift from defensive to offensive military doctrine
Following a series of recent conflicts, Iran's military doctrine will be offensive rather than defensive in nature, said Iranian armed forces representative Amir Akramiania.
"A change has occurred in Iran's military doctrine from defensive to offensive," the IRNA agency quoted him as saying.
He specified that the changes in the doctrine do not necessarily imply preventive actions. In addition, they provide for a rapid response to aggression and Iranian retaliatory actions on a larger scale than the initial strike.
At the same time, Akramiania mentioned Iran's strike on the American base in Jordan, which the Iranian military carried out at a time when the United States had not attacked Iranian territory. According to Akramiania, the Iranian side was then able to inflict serious damage on American forces in the region.
He also mentioned the conclusion in mid-August of a collective security agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan. "This security and defense mechanism in itself, regardless of how effective it may be in the future, at this stage points to the decline of the U.S. position in the region and is the first security and defense mechanism in the region without a U.S. presence," Akramiania concluded.
