Chinese robot breaks Usain Bolt's world record in the 100-meter dash

A humanoid robot developed by Chinese smartphone maker Honor ran 100 meters in 9.32 seconds, breaking the human world record set by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.

As 1news.az reports citing the Reuters agency, this was announced by Chinese state television.

According to the information, the robot nicknamed "Lightning" posted the result during preparatory trials for the second World Humanoid Robot Games, which opened in Beijing on Saturday.

The robot's maximum speed reached 14.5 meters per second. For comparison, Usain Bolt ran 100 meters in 9.58 seconds — the current world record, set on August 16, 2009, at the World Championships in Berlin.

In April, "Lightning" also won a half marathon over a distance of 21 kilometers in Beijing, posting a time of 50 minutes and 26 seconds, which also proved faster than the world record among elite athletes.

During the half marathon, the robot's height was 169 centimeters, and the length of its legs was 95 centimeters. Subsequently, researchers increased the length of its legs by 10 centimeters — to 1.05 meters.
