Pezeshkian confirms Iran's participation in talks with the US
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a telephone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, confirmed his country's participation in talks with US representatives, which are scheduled to take place at the end of the week in Islamabad.
The office of the Pakistani head of government reported this.
"President Pezeshkian thanked the Prime Minister [of Pakistan] and highly appreciated the efforts of the Pakistani leadership in achieving a temporary ceasefire between Iran and the US, and also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Pakistan. He confirmed that Iran will participate in the talks in Islamabad," the office stated in a message on X. The "warm and friendly conversation" between Sharif and Pezeshkian lasted more than 45 minutes, the office clarified.
On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week mutual ceasefire with Iran. This decision was made taking into account the proposal of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and "with the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to fully, immediately, and safely open the Strait of Hormuz," the American leader specified. According to the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic, Tehran put forward 10 conditions for the ceasefire, with which the US "was forced to agree." Sharif invited delegations from Iran and the US to negotiations in Islamabad on April 10 to "reach a final agreement on the settlement of all disputes."
