Iran requires vessels passing through Hormuz to follow alternative routes
The Iranian naval forces have announced the necessity for all vessels planning to cross the Strait of Hormuz to follow two alternative routes proposed by Tehran, in order to eliminate the possibility of encountering mines.
The corresponding directive was published by the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
"Due to the military situation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and the possibility of detecting various anti-ship mines at sea, all vessels intending to pass through the strait must, in coordination with the IRGC Navy in the Strait of Hormuz, use alternative navigation routes until further notice," the statement reads. It is noted that this decision was made "in order to adhere to the principles of maritime safety and to protect against possible collisions with sea mines."
The IRGC directive presents two alternative routes through the Strait of Hormuz from the Persian Gulf and back. Both pass through the waters of Larak Island.
