Kremlin assesses consequences of Strait of Hormuz blockade
Dmitry Peskov stated that many details of the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz remain unclear, making it premature to draw substantive conclusions.
“Many details remain unclear and incomprehensible, so I would refrain from making any substantive comments at this time,” the Kremlin spokesperson noted.
At the same time, he did not rule out that such actions could have a negative impact on global markets. According to him, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is “highly likely” to have a detrimental effect on the international economic situation.
Additionally, Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Russia is ready to provide “good offices” for de-escalating tensions around Iran.
“Russia remains open to assisting in any efforts aimed at reducing tensions,” he noted.
Peskov also recalled that Vladimir Putin’s proposal to accept enriched uranium from Iran remains in effect. This initiative has been discussed with both the U.S. and several regional states, but it has not yet been practically implemented.
