Magyar insists on resignation of Hungary's president

The leader of the Tisa party, Péter Magyar, met with Hungary's President Tamás Sulyok, once again stating that the latter should leave his post later, as he is a protégé of the current Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Magyar is preparing to replace Orbán as head of government after Tisa's victory in the parliamentary elections.

"Tamás Sulyok must leave his post after the formation of a new government," Magyar was quoted as saying by the MTI agency. According to the Tisa leader, the current president cannot "embody the unity of the Hungarian nation, serve as a guarantor of the rule of law, or be a moral standard and role model."

After the victory in the parliamentary elections on April 12, the Tisa leader had already suggested that almost all of the country's top leaders, including the president, the head of the Supreme Court, and the prosecutor general, resign. According to Magyar, all of them are protégés and appointees of Orbán and his Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Alliance party.

Sulyok invited the leaders of the three political parties that made it to parliament to hold consultations with him on the issue of forming a new government. The meeting is scheduled at the head of state's residence, the Sándor Palace. Along with Magyar and Orbán, the chairman of the far-right Our Homeland party, László Toroczkai, is participating in it.

It is expected that Sulyok will propose to Magyar to form a new government. The Tisa party won two-thirds of the seats in parliament in the elections. Within 30 days after the voting day, that is, no later than May 12, the president must set the date for the first session of the new parliament, at which Magyar will be elected as Hungary's Prime Minister.
