Iran rejects idea of temporary truce with the US
Iran does not accept any agreements on a temporary ceasefire with the US.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Saeed Khatibzadeh stated this, as reported by TASS.
"We do not accept any temporary truces. Because it is a vicious cycle that depletes diplomatic resources and then leads to a return to war," he said.
Ongoing contacts with the US are being conducted "precisely for this purpose," Khatibzadeh noted.
Earlier, former US Secretary of State John Kerry urged American authorities to address the issue with Iran solely at the negotiating table. In his opinion, diplomacy is the only way to resolve the conflict.
On April 11, negotiations between representatives of the US and Iran, mediated by Pakistan, took place in Islamabad. The discussions covered issues such as unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian nuclear program, the lifting of sanctions against Tehran, and the cessation of hostilities. However, the parties were unable to conclude a peace deal following this meeting.
