Regional Environmental Summit 2026 kicks off in Astana
The Regional Environmental Summit 2026 (RES 2026) on the theme 'A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future' has begun in Kazakhstan's capital, Astana.
As the event organizers informed Report, the Summit aims to develop comprehensive policies and tools for the protection, restoration, and joint use of ecosystems, water, and land resources, as well as the conservation of biodiversity in Central Asian countries.
RES 2026 is organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan in collaboration with the United Nations and several other international organizations. The Summit is the first large-scale event focused on developing joint solutions that reflect a regional approach to overcoming environmental challenges.
Delegations from 15 countries, including Azerbaijan, Italy, Germany, China, Russia, Japan, and others, are expected to participate in the Summit.
Within the framework of the event, a ministerial dialogue on the Tehran Convention will take place, with the adoption of a declaration expected as an outcome. The declaration is anticipated to enshrine an initiative to develop an Interstate Program aimed at preserving the Caspian Sea ecosystem. Additionally, consultations are planned on the establishment of an International Water Organization within the UN structure. Participation is expected from heads of water authorities of UN member states, agencies implementing the UN water mandate, and research institutes.
An important practical addition to the Summit will be the International Exhibition of 'Green' Technologies, RES 2026 EXPO, which will be held from April 22 to 24. The exhibition will feature national pavilions from Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan as an observer country.
Around 300 companies from 30 countries will participate in RES 2026 EXPO.
