Iran's Foreign Ministry comments on negotiations with the US
Tehran will utilize the diplomatic track to resolve the conflict with the US as soon as it determines that doing so serves national interests, stated Ismail Baghaei, the official spokesperson of Iran's Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the truce with Iran and the postponement of resuming strikes on the Islamic Republic, responding to a request from Pakistani leadership to grant Tehran the opportunity to formulate unified proposals for conflict resolution.
"Diplomacy is a tool for safeguarding interests and national security. We will take steps as soon as we conclude that a suitable and reasonable ground has emerged to use it for the realization of national interests," said Baghaei, whose statement was published by Iran's Foreign Ministry.
He also thanked Pakistan for its mediation efforts to end the war between Tehran and Washington and, commenting on the truce proposal, added that Iran is monitoring developments "on the ground" and in the political sphere, while Iran's armed forces are prepared to decisively repel any threat.
The US and Israel began striking targets on Iranian territory on February 28, with the aggression claiming over 3,000 lives. Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire for two weeks on April 8. Subsequent negotiations in Islamabad ended without results, although no resumption of hostilities has been reported, but the US has initiated a blockade of Iranian ports. Mediators are attempting to organize a new round of talks.
