Pashinyan: 'Armenian genocide' was a consequence of involving the people in international intrigues
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan believes that the 'Armenian genocide' should not become a tool in the hands of global players to fight against each other.
With these words, he addressed the Armenian people on the 111th anniversary of the tragedy, as reported by Armenian media.
The Prime Minister considers April 24 as another occasion for reflection, evaluation of history, and determination to prevent a new tragedy. He assures that the policy of the current government in recent years has been aimed at this.
'We are determined to understand more deeply the periodically recurring history of our people,' he said in his video message.
According to him, one thing has become clear today – it is unacceptable to allow the 'genocide' to become a tool in the struggle between leading global players.
Pashinyan noted that the 'Armenian genocide' was, among other things, a consequence of dragging the Armenian people into international conspiracies and intrigues. This process began in the mid-19th century and reached its tragic culmination in 1915.
The Prime Minister believes that today the Armenian people have a state and peace. These two things are a real guarantee that such tragedies will not happen again. He once again called for an end to 'searching for a homeland beyond the territory of 29,743 sq. km,' referring to the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
The Prime Minister sees peace and security, first and foremost, in the normalization of relations with neighbors, mutual recognition of borders, and sovereignty. According to him, those forces in Armenia that call for the 'return of the lost homeland and the restoration of historical borders' are 'putting Armenia on the tracks of the San Stefano Conference of 1878,' with the inevitable loss of statehood. Armenia, in his words, has emerged from this 'trap,' and attempts to drive it back there are a direct invitation for the state and the people to the guillotine.
