White House: U.S. will not enter into a deal with Iran that is disadvantageous to itself and the world

The United States will not enter into an agreement with Iran that is not beneficial to Washington and the entire world.

Olivia Wells, Deputy Press Secretary of the White House, conveyed this to The New York Times (NYT).

"The U.S. will not negotiate through the media - we have clearly outlined our red lines, and President [Donald Trump] will only agree to a deal that benefits Americans and the entire world," her statement to NYT reads.

As the publication notes, American authorities have concluded that Iranian negotiators lack the authority to make concessions on the nuclear program, neither from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei nor from the leadership of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). They point out that without the continuation of military actions, there is little reason to believe that Tehran's negotiating position will change. However, even continued bombings, according to officials, do not guarantee a change in the decision-making process on the Iranian side, writes NYT.

American media previously reported that Trump is unlikely to accept Iran's proposal to resume negotiations, as this plan lacks provisions for resolving the issue of Tehran's nuclear program.

Earlier, the Al Mayadeen channel reported that Iran had conveyed a three-stage plan to mediators, under which it is ready to negotiate with the U.S. According to the channel, the Iranian side demands that the first stage be "focused on [the issue of] ending the war and obtaining guarantees" that military actions against Iran and Lebanon will not be resumed. The second stage of discussions should address the management of the Strait of Hormuz after the conflict ends. The third stage, according to Iran's proposal, will concern Tehran's nuclear dossier. According to Al Mayadeen, the Iranian side refuses to discuss this topic without reaching an agreement on the two preceding issues.
