Since the start of the blockade, the US has detained 44 vessels linked to Iran
Since the start of the blockade, the US Navy has detained 44 merchant vessels that departed from Iranian ports or were headed to Iran.
This was stated in a message from the US Central Command in the Middle East (CENTCOM).
"To date, 44 merchant vessels have been ordered to turn back or return to port," the message said.
As a reminder, due to the lack of concrete results on the nuclear program between the US and Iran, on February 28, the US and Israel began military airstrikes on Iran, while Iran, starting from the same day, has been launching missile and drone attacks on Israel and US targets in the region. Through Pakistan's mediation, an agreement on a two-week truce was reached between the parties on April 7. On April 11, no agreement was reached during talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad.
In addition, on April 21, US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the truce until Iran presents its proposal and negotiations are concluded one way or another.
On April 13, the US imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports. In response, on April 18, Iran introduced strict restrictions on the passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
